Oranges And Cream

Week 15

Baby’s Length: 4 in.

Baby’s Weight: 1.75 oz.

Baby’s Size: Orange

It’s scary to think about how big the baby is already. By the first week of March, I will be half way through my pregnancy. It seems like just yesterday I was fretting over whether the pregnancy test was really positive or not. And look at how far I’ve come from then. It’s just really hard to believe when you sit back and think about it. I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun!

I’m sorry if all of my posts are about baby related things nowadays. My world kinda revolves around my pregnancy right now. And besides… my blog really wasn’t that interesting before anyway. At least I actually have something to blog about now, even if it’s not all that interesting!

Let’s see… something not baby related… Ah yes! Dan and I finally found the perfect apartment! We went to see it on Saturday and both of us loved it. Dan was very skeptical about moving before because he really didn’t like any of the apartments we went to see, but when he saw this one, I think he fell in love.

It’s a 1 bedroom, unlike all the 2 bedrooms apartments we went to see before. However, it’s twice the size of most of the 2 bedroom apartments we looked at. At only $850 a month with water, electric, and heat included, well you can’t get any better than that! It has a large kitchen with plenty of storage and counter tops, a good sized living room with a big window, a very large bedroom with a huge walk-in closet, and a really nice bathroom with storage under the sink as well as a bunch of shelving in the corners. The best part? The washer and dryer/laundry room is right outside of our front door and we only share it with one other apartment. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

Dan is bringing the completed application by the landlord’s office today. The Landlord is a RE/MAX real estate agent. I don’t think “Landlord” is his primary occupation though. Seems like it’s just a side job/hobby for him.

If you are the praying type, please pray that we get this apartment!! If we do, we will be moving in two weeks. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to settle in somewhere where I will be comfortable and WARM!

Now, if you know anything about me, you know that I try to be ultra prepared. Remember when I was moving down from Northern Maine to Southern Maine and I packed everything about 2 weeks before we actually had to move and I spent the last week in that apartment trying to live around piles of boxes that were stacked to the ceiling? Well, I decided not to do that this time around.

And you remember how I packed everything in neat little boxes and taped purple index cards that were neatly labeled on each box? Yeah, not going to do that either. Mostly because, everything I packed in August is still packed. I only need to pack up a bunch of clothes, pots and pans, a few small dishes and plates, and towels, shampoo etc. Since I will be at my in-laws until we move, I won’t have barely any time at all to go back to the campground and pack up those few things. When we go there with the U-Haul, I will have to throw all of the already packed items from August into the truck and then throw all the remaining unpacked items in black trash bags to save time. THAT should be interesting…

Something I can rest easy about – I am almost done buying the majority of things that I need for the baby. Talk about prepared in advance! I know, I know… I just like to get things done and out of the way as quickly as possible so that if something comes up at the last minute, I don’t have to worry. The only items I have left to buy are the big items like the crib, the changing table, the bureau, and the rocking chair, as well as a few standard items like diapers, onesies, bottles, etc.

I don’t remember if I mentioned it before, but I decided to do the nursery in the Classic Winnie The Pooh theme. I much prefer the old pooh to the new pooh, although I grew up watching the “new pooh” on TV. If you aren’t familiar with pooh, here is a quick reference to go by:

Classic Pooh           Modern Pooh

So I have been buying all things Classic Pooh. I got the crib bumper, blankets, crib sheets, dust ruffle, crib toy, stuffed pooh (and his friends), and more. I’ve been able to find everything I want and more on eBay for less than half the price it would cost in stores. Plus, Target seems to have the rights to selling all things classic pooh, and I won’t shop at Target because they support abortion. So, the only other place I could buy the classic pooh items was on eBay!

And I’ll admit, I’ve also bought a few non-gender specific baby clothes that are also “Classic Pooh” and are mostly cream colored. I hate pink and blue clothes anyway. It’s so cliché! I never wore pink when I was a baby… I’m going to wait until I find out the sex of the baby before I buy more clothing, but I do like the things I already bought and they are perfect, no matter what the gender is.

Now I have a question for you guys… When you were pregnant with your first baby, did you have a baby shower? If so, did you get to plan it yourself, or was it a surprise baby shower thrown for you by a close friend? I’ve been told that you are “not allowed” to plan your own baby shower and I tend to believe that is hogwash, so I am wondering what your thoughts are on this. Please let me know!!!

Friday Musings

I just upgraded to the newest version of WordPress. So far, I like it alot, but there are still a few things I am trying to figure out. For some reason my links aren’t showing up in the sidebar to the right. Be patient with me though! I just need time… and more brain cells.

When I woke up this morning it was -5° outside and about 50° inside. Just toasty, eh?

On a happier, warmer note — I went for a sonogram last night! Got to hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time. I’m now convinced there is actually a baby in there!!! lol

I need to go for a dating ultrasound soon because none of us can figure out how far along I am. I calculated 14 weeks along by now, but if my calculations were correct, according to when I ovulated, I also wouldn’t be pregnant! So I suspect I am at least 15 weeks into this pregnancy. I need to find out soon! Gosh, who knows… I could be 20 weeks and not know it.

Dan and I took a trip down to Massachusetts to go see my primary physician so I could finally get my prescription for Advair renewed. My asthma has been soooo bad for the past 3 weeks, since I ran out of my meds. One more week without it and I definitely would have gone into the hospital. Luckily though, I have it now and I am breathing much better today. Being able to breath is a luxury that most people take advantage of.

After a visit to my doctor, we went to take a tour of a birthing center nearby. They offer things like home birth, water birth, prenatal yoga classes, lactation consultation, and all kinds of great stuff. I was very interested in the water birth, which was how I found the birthing center to begin with.

The woman who ran the place was extremely easy to get along with, very find, polite, and warm. She explained everything about the center and answered all of our questions. It was a great experience.

After much thought and talking, Dan and I decided that we were going to have our baby at that birthing center. I am very excited that we finally made a decision and it is one that I am very comfortable and happy with. However, when we told the mom-in-law, she almost had a stroke. She hates midwives and natural birth options, etc. But that’s okay. To each his own!!

Much to my disgust, we are still looking for an apartment. Picky? Yeah, I guess we are. I don’t want to spend 1/2 of my husband’s paycheck each month on a tiny apartment in the bad side of town. All the good apartments in our price range don’t allow dogs. It just seems ridiculous! However, we do have faith that we will soon find an apartment that is affordable and has the amenities we are looking for. Please keep us in your prayers!!

Get A Better Browser

Tell me… why is there anyone left on this planet who uses Internet Explorer???

Is it because they are lazy and don’t feel like getting something better? Is it because they are afraid of having to learn how to use a new browser? Or is it simple because they just don’t know any better?

If you spend more than 1 hour a day on the internet, you will find huge benefits to downloading a better browser.

Let me introduce you to a little miracle called Firefox. If you already use it, congrats to you!! If you don’t, and you’ve heard of it before, how come you haven’t downloaded it yet?!?!?!?!

Benefits to using Firefox:

1.) A huge decrease in the number of deadly computer Viruses entering your computer.

2.) Websites display properly as the programing for Firefox is done correctly. If you enjoy HTML or building websites, you will notice this immediately.

3.) Faster page loads. Firefox works faster and more streamline on your computer and doesn’t freeze up constantly like Internet Explorer does.

4.) More options. Firefox keeps your browsing sessions a lot more secure and spyware-free. And to top it all off, it also supports the standards religiously and has a wide range of powerful features.

5.) Tabbed browsing. Instead of having many windows open, you only have one window open with many tabs. This keeps your computer running faster and your taskbar a lot less cluttered.

6.) Built in spell checker. Never make spelling mistakes again!

7.) Firefox offers a wide variety of Themes to give your browser the look you want. I use Noia 2.0 Extreme. You can download as many different themes as you want and change them to suit your mood.

Belly – Week 13

My belly is getting rounder all the time. My mother-in-law is convinced I am having a boy because I’m growing so fast!!

When I first found out that I was pregnant, I immediately told my husband that it was a boy. Ever since then though, I have held my hopes out for a girl. Can’t know yet though… Have 3 or 4 weeks to go before you can accurately tell the sex of the baby, although technically it’s sex organs are almost fully formed at this point.

Before I got pregnant, I looked for blogs that documented pregnancies, but it doesn’t seem to be a popular blogging subject. Either that, or I didn’t search very well.

My friend Tammie, over at Soul Gardening has posted a couple belly pics and I enjoy that immensely. I wish more people would do that!! Pregnant bellies are so gorgeous. At least I think so…

I haven’t bought many maternity clothes yet. I have 3 pairs of maternity pants, a few tank tops that I wear underneath my 1 maternity cardigan, 1 turtleneck shirt, 3 long sleeve shirts shirts, and 2 beautiful dresses that I bought at Motherhood Maternity in the mall. I bought this beautiful brown one and this gorgeous kimono style dress. I’m wearing the brown one in this picture!

My favorite maternity item so far is a pair of brown pants I bought at Old Navy. They have a wide waist band you can fold over. Plus, they are super soft, making them uberly comfy.

What maternity clothing did you get the most out of during your pregnancy? Were there certain items you wouldn’t have been able to live without? Please tell!

Shuffle And Kick

Week 13

Baby’s Length: 3 inches

Baby’s Weight: 0.75 ounces

Baby’s Size: iPod Shuffle

Last week, I felt strange little feelings in my abdomen. It happened only a few times, and I couldn’t tell what it was. I questioned whether it was the baby or not, but passed it off as my stomach gurgling.

On Wednesday (1/10) I was laying on my back next to Dan on my mother-in-law’s water bed when I felt it again. It made me remember that she had told me only a few weeks earlier that I should be able to touch my abdomen and feel my uterus growing in size. I wasn’t able to find it the first time I looked for it, so I asked for further instruction. This time I was able to find it with ease and was quite surprised at how large it felt!!

I gently prodded at it and moved it back and forth from side to side in amazement at it’s mass and the odd sensation I felt inside. Seconds later, I felt what seemed like a very pronounced thud in the middle of my uterus. “I think I just felt the baby!” I exclaimed and gently pressed my hand against my stomach. I waited another few seconds and felt it again! It was such a wonderfully odd feeling, but I knew right away that what I was feeling was my baby.

It happened several more times within a 5 minute span and I was absolutely delighted. I think moving my uterus around pissed off the baby! “Hey, who’s rocking the damn boat up there!!” I imagined it was thinking… (Yes, my baby swears already…)

Over the next few days, I felt it at least once a day at one point or another. It is easy to identify now and it makes me smile every time I feel it. My little baby is moving!

Growing a baby inside of you is such an amazing thing. It started off to be very taxing, but for the first time so far, I am actually enjoying this. Maybe being pregnant isn’t so miserable afterall.

According to what I read online, the baby is actually starting to look like a baby now. It has tiny fingers and toes!

Swellings on the side of the neck show where the baby’s ears will be, and the insides of the ears are forming. On the head are the start of lips on a mouth that can already open and close, and a bit of a nose. Eyelids, which will fuse together and stay closed for a few months, are growing over developing eyes.

The reproductive organs are among the last to form. In the middle of the month, testes have formed in boys and ovaries in girls, but the external sex organs still look similar in both sexes. Hopefully by the first week of February though, I will be able to have an ultrasound that will determine whether we are having a girl or a boy.

I’m totally routing for a girl, but I have the distinct feeling that it’s a boy. Call it mother’s intuition.
