Oranges And Cream

Week 15

Baby’s Length: 4 in.

Baby’s Weight: 1.75 oz.

Baby’s Size: Orange

It’s scary to think about how big the baby is already. By the first week of March, I will be half way through my pregnancy. It seems like just yesterday I was fretting over whether the pregnancy test was really positive or not. And look at how far I’ve come from then. It’s just really hard to believe when you sit back and think about it. I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun!

I’m sorry if all of my posts are about baby related things nowadays. My world kinda revolves around my pregnancy right now. And besides… my blog really wasn’t that interesting before anyway. At least I actually have something to blog about now, even if it’s not all that interesting!

Let’s see… something not baby related… Ah yes! Dan and I finally found the perfect apartment! We went to see it on Saturday and both of us loved it. Dan was very skeptical about moving before because he really didn’t like any of the apartments we went to see, but when he saw this one, I think he fell in love.

It’s a 1 bedroom, unlike all the 2 bedrooms apartments we went to see before. However, it’s twice the size of most of the 2 bedroom apartments we looked at. At only $850 a month with water, electric, and heat included, well you can’t get any better than that! It has a large kitchen with plenty of storage and counter tops, a good sized living room with a big window, a very large bedroom with a huge walk-in closet, and a really nice bathroom with storage under the sink as well as a bunch of shelving in the corners. The best part? The washer and dryer/laundry room is right outside of our front door and we only share it with one other apartment. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?

Dan is bringing the completed application by the landlord’s office today. The Landlord is a RE/MAX real estate agent. I don’t think “Landlord” is his primary occupation though. Seems like it’s just a side job/hobby for him.

If you are the praying type, please pray that we get this apartment!! If we do, we will be moving in two weeks. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to settle in somewhere where I will be comfortable and WARM!

Now, if you know anything about me, you know that I try to be ultra prepared. Remember when I was moving down from Northern Maine to Southern Maine and I packed everything about 2 weeks before we actually had to move and I spent the last week in that apartment trying to live around piles of boxes that were stacked to the ceiling? Well, I decided not to do that this time around.

And you remember how I packed everything in neat little boxes and taped purple index cards that were neatly labeled on each box? Yeah, not going to do that either. Mostly because, everything I packed in August is still packed. I only need to pack up a bunch of clothes, pots and pans, a few small dishes and plates, and towels, shampoo etc. Since I will be at my in-laws until we move, I won’t have barely any time at all to go back to the campground and pack up those few things. When we go there with the U-Haul, I will have to throw all of the already packed items from August into the truck and then throw all the remaining unpacked items in black trash bags to save time. THAT should be interesting…

Something I can rest easy about – I am almost done buying the majority of things that I need for the baby. Talk about prepared in advance! I know, I know… I just like to get things done and out of the way as quickly as possible so that if something comes up at the last minute, I don’t have to worry. The only items I have left to buy are the big items like the crib, the changing table, the bureau, and the rocking chair, as well as a few standard items like diapers, onesies, bottles, etc.

I don’t remember if I mentioned it before, but I decided to do the nursery in the Classic Winnie The Pooh theme. I much prefer the old pooh to the new pooh, although I grew up watching the “new pooh” on TV. If you aren’t familiar with pooh, here is a quick reference to go by:

Classic Pooh           Modern Pooh

So I have been buying all things Classic Pooh. I got the crib bumper, blankets, crib sheets, dust ruffle, crib toy, stuffed pooh (and his friends), and more. I’ve been able to find everything I want and more on eBay for less than half the price it would cost in stores. Plus, Target seems to have the rights to selling all things classic pooh, and I won’t shop at Target because they support abortion. So, the only other place I could buy the classic pooh items was on eBay!

And I’ll admit, I’ve also bought a few non-gender specific baby clothes that are also “Classic Pooh” and are mostly cream colored. I hate pink and blue clothes anyway. It’s so clichΓ©! I never wore pink when I was a baby… I’m going to wait until I find out the sex of the baby before I buy more clothing, but I do like the things I already bought and they are perfect, no matter what the gender is.

Now I have a question for you guys… When you were pregnant with your first baby, did you have a baby shower? If so, did you get to plan it yourself, or was it a surprise baby shower thrown for you by a close friend? I’ve been told that you are “not allowed” to plan your own baby shower and I tend to believe that is hogwash, so I am wondering what your thoughts are on this. Please let me know!!!

  1. Yes, I did have a shower. And NO, you are not supposed to plan it yourself! πŸ˜› LOL Someone close, family or friend (in my case my best friend) typically does all that for you. But, since you can be a bit of a *ahem* control freak, I can see where you’d want to do it yourself

Mine wasn’t a suprise at all. Come to think of it, I have never been to one that was. My girlfriend asked me for a list of people and where I was registered, much like my bridal shower, and then sent out the invites and handled everything.

What transpired that day, by way of games, activities and such, was a surprise. As were all the adorable things I got. I had so much fun!

Sit back and let someone do it for you. It’s more fun that way! Trust me!

  2. You’re mean!! lol Yes, I am a control freak and I DO want to plan it myself because I am afraid if I don’t, my mom or Dan’s mom will and that is the LAST THING I WANT!!! :pinch:

Would it be rude to ask my sister in law to help me plan it and if I could have it at her house?

I don’t think my best friend Jaclyn would even know where to begin with planning a baby shower… πŸ™

  3. When you were pregnant with your first baby, did you have a baby shower?

Well that’s certainly a gender-discriminitory question! Hrmph, as if all your readers were female…. Hrmph.

  4. Oh Barry!! LOL I didn’t mean to leave you out!!

You could always share what your wife’s baby shower was like and if it was a surprise for her??? πŸ˜‰

  5. Usually if you’re a member of a church, you get a first baby shower.
I knew they were having one, but I didn’t get to plan it. Which was fine by me, because by then I didn’t WANT to plan anything.
Since I had moved to a different town when I had my second, and was going to a different church, they threw me a baby shower too. I didn’t get to plan that one either, and again, it didn’t bother me because by that time I didn’t feel like planning what I was going to wear that day, much less a baby shower.
Usually either your inlaws or some close friends will throw you a shower if you don’t have a regular church.
But NO…you’re not supposed to plan your own. Relax!

  6. Shelly, it’s not that Moof wouldn’t be “perfect” at throwing me a baby shower, it’s just that she does NOT have the money nor the time nor the energy. I don’t want that burden on her… I wouldn’t enjoy the shower because I would feel bad that she had to do it.

Who decided that women couldn’t plan their own baby shower??? I planned my own wedding shower and did my own invitations and everything. And I enjoyed doing that.

Just seems weird to pawn the job off on someone else…….

  7. *pokes Tiger in the arm* I was just giving you are hard time..Hee Hee Heck if I wasn’t on the opposite coast, I’d totally help! πŸ˜‰

Actually, Jaclyn might surprise you. Don’t count her out. Maybe she can and A can do it together?

  8. Oh you’re a sweetheart!!

I think Jaclyn is too flaky to even know that throwing her best friend a baby shower is something she’s even supposed to do!!

    I might be wrong though…

Is it bad etiquette to ask? If someone else is going to plan it for me, I’d at least like to know who it is so I can tell them who I’d like to invite.

  9. T~

I hear what you are saying about Moof, but I think she’d be hurt if she wasn’t at least included. Maybe she can make a snack item? A dip, punch or cookies. That way she’s helping, but not doing all of it.

As far as the planning of it, I felt it would be presumptive of me to plan a shower and ask people to buy me things. But that’s just me.

Don’t think about it so much. Besides, you have plenty of time yet

  10. Well actually one of the reasons I am so concerned about it is because I want to have 2 seperate baby showers.

All of my relatives live in Massachusetts and all of my husband’s relatives live in Maine. It would be a 2+ hour drive for one whole side of the family depending on where we had the shower.

Plus, I don’t want Moof and my mom to have to be in the same room. They really don’t like each other and I think everyone would be a lot more comfortable (including me) if they didn’t have to be around each other.

  11. I think you should totally plan it yourself if you’d like! Or perhaps enlist a friend for help but be able to make guest list and date decisions.
I planned a surprise baby shower for my mom (yes my mom had a baby when i was in college!)I had the ultra sound put on a pink frosted sheet cake. It was so neat!
    Good luck!

  12. well mine was supposed to be two seperate showers and the lady that was supposed to be doing the second one decided she was going to go to the first one. since then she and i haven’t spoke almost four years ago… my thought is to make sure that the ones you are lest comfortable with do not know about the other one if you know what i mean? saves a whole lot of trouble which i think is what you are trying to do yes?.. i wish you the best of luck;) my sister planned my shower and the games etc i was more then happy to go without one cause of all the drama I knew would happen… go figure… *sigh* anywho… i think you should do what you feel comfortable with hugs

  13. I run a website, Babes in Blogland, that lists ttc, expecting, and parenting bloggers to help us all find one another. I’ve added your site to the blogroll. If you need me to correct any information or if you would like for me to remove the link, please let me know.

    Thank you and congratulations.

  14. Hi, I just found your blog on Babes In Blogland! I love your site. For my first baby (so far only, but my hubby and I would like to change that some day) I had a few showers, 2 church ones, a school one (I was a teacher) and a couple friend ones. I didn’t get to plan any of them. And the shower from the school was a surprise! They had it at a beach too!! (I live on an Island so the beach is never all that far away)
Congratulations by the way!! My 2 cents would be that if you’d like to plan it and it would be better for everyone all the way around then why the heck not!! Go for it!
