Bible Verses That Preach Against Circumcision

Posted on February 21, 2011

“Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you be circumcised, Christ will be of no advantage to you.” – …Gal 5:2

“And even those who advocate circumcision don’t really keep the whole law. They only want you to be circumcised so they can brag about it and claim you as their disciples.” – Gal 6:13

“For there are many who rebel against right teaching; they engage in useless talk and deceive people. This is especially true of those who insist on circumcision for salvation. They must be silenced. By their wrong teaching, they have already turned whole families away from the truth. Such teachers only want your money” – Titus 1:10-11

?”Watch out for those wicked men – dangerous dogs, I call them – who say you must be circumcised. Beware of the evil doers. Beware of the mutilation. For it isn’t the cutting of our bodies that makes us children of God; it is worshiping him… with our spirits.” – Phil 3:2-3

“And I testify again to every male who receives circumcision, that he is in debt to keep the whole Law. You who do so have been severed from Christ…you have fallen from grace.” – Gal 5:3

“As God has called each man, in this manner let him walk. And thus I command in all the churches. Was any man called in the circumcision [Old Covenant]? Let him not try to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in the uncircumcision [New Covenant in Christ]? Let him not be circumcised! Circumcision is nothing. And uncircumcision is nothing but the keeping of the commandments of God. Let each man remain in that condition in which he was called.” – 1 Cor. 7:17

“And some men came and were teaching the brethren, ‘Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.’ But Paul and Barnabas together had great dissension and disputing with these men. . . Then Peter stood up and said to them ‘Why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?” – Acts 15:1-2, 7, 10

“But if I still proclaim circumcision. . . then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.” – Gal 5:11

“I wish that those who are pushing you to do so would mutilate themselves!” – Gal 5:12

  1. Close-But-Not-Exactly says...

New testament does not really preach against circumcision. But it preach against circumcision AS THE MEAN FOR FULFILLING THE LAW. Because Jesus fulfilled the law. If pharisees could fulfill the law Jesus would not be coming down. Circumcision in the Old testament was the promise of SPIRITUAL circumcision – or removing the foreskins of our heart – and this came with Christ (I post confirming verses of all this below).
A person can be circumcised or not, God equally receives, but the thing that Bible says is that this will not make the person holy in any way. But God surely doesn’t condemn someone who chooses to circumcise for the sake of hygiene, etc. The circumcision was the promise of the spiritual one, of the mind and the heart.

    The Promise:

Exodus 6:12 ….Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of *uncircumcised lips*?
Jeremiah 4:4 *Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart*, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Deuteronomy 10:16 *Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart*, and be no more stiffnecked.
Deuteronomy 30:6 *And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart*, and the heart of thy seed, *to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live*.
Acts 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and *uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost*: as your fathers did, so do ye.

    The Fulfillment:

Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and *circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit*, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Colossians 2:11 *In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ*:
Philippians 3:3 For *we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit*, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

In response to the above comment the Bible also says we are not to cut the flesh.

~Lev.19:28 “You shall not make any cuts in your flesh.”
This is followed by the phrase “for the living,” since incisions “for the dying” were sometimes necessary, and incisions “for the dead” could be permitted also (allowing for an autopsy or such). In other words, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Unless God Himself sets forth an exception in the form of a command, this rule governs all living people.
One rule has never changed, cutting off any part of the genitals has always been forbidden. The cut at the tip of the foreskin was one thing, but had any man cut off his foreskin, or any of the other parts of his genitals, he would have been excommunicated from God’s presence and His people’s fellowship.

~Deut. 23: 1 “No one who…has his male genitalia cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.”
The foreskin represents 1/3 of the total skin which comprises the male genitalia. This was truly a significant portion of the genitals. But God never wanted his people to “cut off” anything!

Just so you know, some of those verses aren’t finished. If you go to the verses in the bible they will sound like they are against it but the.n it says that it doesn’t matter either way.
